Breaking Stigmas

Hello Everyone! My name is Amy Gentry, and I am your Miss Alaska American Coronet 2020. A fun fact about me, is that I am an NCAA devision 1 collegiate athlete at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am on the rifle team, which is a surprise for most people. I have been shooting competitively for eight years. One of my goals is to educate others about my sport, and to break the negative stigmas associated with gun violence. I want to show others that guns can be used to teach discipline, goal setting, dedication, and most importantly that guns can be used in a safe and positive way. Competitive shooting has shaped me into the woman I am today. I have had the opportunity to compete at a national level and shoot alongside olympic gold medalists at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Shooting is something I will always be passionate about. Last year I spent over 40 community service hours helping the youth shooting teams on my free time. I wish to move into coaching athletes after I retire from the sport, and to help aspiring athletes to be the best they can be.
