Go Red for Women Day

Tomorrow, February 7th is Go Red For Women Day! This is a special day raising awareness for heart disease in women! Not only is this a special day for women, but a special day for me as I am studying to be a Physician Assistant and working to be in the field of cardiology. I have a history of heart disease in my family so I know what it is like to have a loved one suffer with this illness, but that is why I am going into the medical field as I want to help anyone who may suffer from heart disease.
Some facts about heart disease that I feel people should know is that it is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. One person dies every 37 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths!
I am challenging everyone tomorrow to wear something red, to raise the awareness for heart disease in women! As a woman and someone who has been affected by it, it means a lot and puts a smile on my face when I see others choosing to stand out and being an advocate for those who have had to experience heart disease in some way. I chose to wear red this past Sunday while singing in my church’s praise band! (A bold red heel is always nice too 😉 )
