My favorite quote or a little about myself….

I am a paramedic and photographer that loves to read and write. I believe that mental health awareness is VERY important and needs to be brought to attention. I am shy at first but once you get to know me I am very down to earth and have a goofy side to me.

Favorite Quote:

”All of life is a coming home. Salesmen, secretaries, coal miners, beekeepers, sword swallowers, all of us. All the restless hearts of the world, all trying to find a way home. It’s hard to describe what I felt like then. Picture yourself walking for days in the driving snow; you don’t even know you’re walking in circles. The heaviness of your legs in the drifts, your shouts disappearing into the wind. How small you can feel, and how far away home can be. Home. The dictionary defines it as both a place of origin and a goal or destination. And the storm? The storm was all in my mind. Or as the poet Dante put it: In the middle of the journey of my life, I found myself in a dark wood, for I had lost the right path. Eventually I would find the right path, but in the most unlikely place.” -Patch Adams

Community Service & Involvement

I am an active volunteer with my local humane society. I have done many hours working at adoption events and also orienting new volunteers. Due to the virus outbreak I haven’t been able to volunteer my time like normal because they have put all events on hold until further notice.

I also have volunteered hours for the Love Modesto event. In 2019 I volunteered 8 hours for this event. I helped at the Stanislaus Animal Shelter. We bathed dogs, helped train dogs, and helped clean cages. This was a great day of volunteering and helping out the community we love.

My platforms mental health and helping those who struggle with their mental health. I struggle with mental health issues and I know how important keeping well mentally is. I want others to know that mental wellness is possible no matter how bad things may seem. I want to start volunteering with my local NAMI to get my story out there.

Talents & Skills

My biggest talent is photography. I have been doing photography for about 10 years now. I started while I was in college studying to be a paramedic. I needed something that would help me cope with the stress, so I bought a camera and I fell in love. I have tried many different types of photography but I have found that I mainly like taking pictures of landscapes, animals, and cityscapes. I have found that looking at the world through the lens helps me find a new outlook on life and helps me de-stress when stressors are getting to me. I have attached some of my photography. I hope you enjoy.

Leadership

I am an FTO (Field Training Officer) at my job. I am in charge of training new hires and re-training those that have been off work for a while. This is a HUGE responsibility. I take this responsibility seriously. When a new hire comes on many times they are new to the field. I try to not only make them feel at ease but also try to help them feel confident in their skills and themselves.

I recently was placed on a COVID-19 task force. This is a special team of EMTs and Paramedics that can be called to duty at any time to help out when a facility gets overwhelmed with COVID patients. We are asked to volunteer time to be trained and, after we are trained, to volunteer to help the facility test and take care of COVID positive patients. I have completed my training and am now just waiting for the call.

I was one who went to college a little later than most. I was 25 when I finally went for my dream career of being a paramedic. I moved across from Wyoming to Wisconsin to attend Northcentral Technical College. I was a Paramedic Technology Major and a Psychology and Communications Minor. I graduated with an Associates degree in Paramedic Technology and Certificates in Psychology and Communications.

Essays

Essay #1

I want to be crowned the next national queen because I want to have the chance to work closely with my local NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to get the word out about mental illness and let others with mental illness know that they are not alone. So many people today go without treatment for their mental illness because of the stigma that surrounds it, but I want to break that stigma and help those who need help, get it.

Essay #2

If I could spend the day with any woman past, present or future, I would pick my grandmother (my dad’s mother). She has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t know who we (her family) are anymore. I would love to spend the day with her before she got Alzheimer’s and listen to all the stories I could about her growing up In Aruba and about her raising 9 children. She is truly my hero and I wish I could go back and listen closer to her stories.

Easy #3

The best thing about California is the amount of different landscapes that there are. I live in the Central Valley which has a lot of almond orchards. I am actually in the perfect area. I am 2 hours away from the mountains of Yosemite National Park, but I am also 2 hours away from the beautiful beaches on San Francisco Bay. I can go from the snowy mountains to the sunny beaches all in one day if I wanted.
